Steven Tisch enthusiastically pursued filmmaking while he was in college and began working on it right after graduating. He started by making a few small scale projects like short movies. As he his father was a very rich man, Tisch easily got the financial backup that he required for his experimental works.

But as his work had begun bearing fruits, Columbia Pictures also supported him. Outlaw Blues, Tisch’s first feature movie was released after he moved from Columbia in 1976 and later, he also released Risky Business in 1983 where a very young Tom Cruise had starred. His movie The Burning Bed was released in 1984, but even though the movie was nominated for 11 Emmy awards, it was criticized a lot as a topic of controversy.
