Sally Morgan was born on the 28th of January, 1951 in Perth, Western Australia. According to various sources, it is known that her father died after a long-term battle with post-traumatic stress disorder so she was raised by her mother and grandmother.

She is eldest among her five siblings and she knew that one of her sisters were in fact of Aboriginal descent.

Since she was very young, she knew she wanted to become an author. She graduated from the University of Western Australia with a bachelors degree and later attended the Western Australian Institute of Technology for her post-graduate studies.

Sally Morgan's first ever book My Place was published in 1987 in Europe, Asia, the United States and Australia where she managed to sell over half a million copies. The book is actually an autobiography about her family's past.

Morgan's second book is also a biography of her grandfather which goes by the name Wanamurraganya. In addition, she has also worked as an illustrator in children's book named Dan's Grandpa, alongside  Bronwyn Bancroft.

Moreover, Sally is also the director of the Arts at the University of Western Australia and the Centre for Indigenous History.

Besides being a director, Sally also has received multiple awards for her amazing work. Her first book, My Place got Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission humanitarian award in 1987.
