The only family we know of her is her mother, Jean McGrath.
Pat says that it was her mother Jean, who got her into fashion and makeup. As Jean would comment on clothes as they watched classic movies together and mix up colors because there wasn't really anything for black kids, it inspired her to get into the beauty industry.

Pat's first ever job was that of a receptionist where she worked to support herself in achieving her goal of becoming a makeup artist. Her career started when she got a chance to work with Edward Enninful (then fashion editor of i-D magazine) in the early 1990s.
McGrath developed a line of cosmetics for Georgio Armani and spent ten seasons creating the make-up concepts for Prada and Miu Miu in the nineties.
McGrath was listed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire, for services to the fashion and beauty industry in 2013 on Queen Elizabeth II's New Year Honors List.
She’s mostly on the road, working on magazine covers for the likes of Vogue, Harpers and Wand has worked with celebrities as diverse as Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cate Blanchett and Oprah Winfrey.
