He first studied in the Hillhead Primary School in the West End of Glasgow when he moved to Glasgow in Scotland when he was four. Hardeep Singh Kohli started her journey as a journalist after joining the trainee scheme of the BBC Scotland graduate production as soon as he finished his university. Her career really started when he directed children's TV in BBC Television Centre, London.

Kohli is also famous for filming a documentary about Scientology, mainly The Beginner's Guide to L. Ron Hubbard. Kohli also released a documentary which explored cultural identity as a Briton and a Scot belonging to an ethnic minority titled In Search of the Tartan Turban. The documentary was able to bag a Schools BAFTA.
