In 1996, Miller came out into the international scene as a 19-year-old and blew everyone's minds. He became widely recognized after winning two silver medals at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in the giant slalom and combined events.

Miller first appeared in the world cup in 1998 representing the United States in the 1998 Nagano Olympics. There was only progress for him since 2003 after he became World Ski Champion in 2003 (Giant Slalom), and 2005 (Super-G and Downhill), thrice, and winner of the overall FIS World Cup in 2005.

Even though 2006 was a disappointment, he got back on his A game from 2007 to 2009 when he became the independent world cup champion. He retired in 2015. Bode is also an actor and producer, known for The White Circus, In Depth with Graham Bensinger (2010) and The Story (2010).
