Ross was born in Weehawken, New Jersey on November 28, 1937, to his father, Wilbur Louis Ross Sr. and his mother, Agnes (née O’Neill). He spent his childhood nearby North Bergen. Previously, his father worked as a lawyer but later became a judge. His mother worked as a school teacher.
Ross went to Catholic college preparatory Xavier High School which was located in Manhattan. The school was two hours away from his home at New Jersey. At the school, he ran track. Not only that, but he was also captain of the rifle team.
After school, he got his undergraduate degree from the prestigious Yale Colleg where his father was an alma mater. During college, Ross did the work of editing a literary magazine. Also, he did a job at the radio station.
