Professionally, Sage Steele is a television anchor. Her career started when she got her first television sports reporting job at WSBT-TV, the CBS affiliate in South Bend, Indiana. There, she worked as a reporter and news producer from 1995 to 1997. Sage then started working at CBS affiliate WISH-TV in Indianapolis, Indiana, from 1997 to 1998 as their weekend morning sports anchor and weekday reporter. Her job was to cover local college and high school sports, the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, Brickyard 400 auto races, and Indianapolis 500.

Steele used to work at ABC affiliate WFTS in Tampa, Florida, from 1998 to 2001. During this times, she worked as a sports reporter with Scott Hanson. She also served Fox Sports Florida as a reporter, where she continued to cover teams throughout Central Florida such as University of South Florida Bulls, Orlando Magic, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Starting in the 2013–14 NBA season, Steele was able to become the host of NBA Countdown on ESPN and ABC through 2017. She was also the co-host of the Miss America 2017 & 2018 pageant on ABC along with Chris Harrison.
