Parvati Shallow was born on September 21, 1982, in Vero Beach, Florida, United States. At the age of 11, Parvati and her family left Florida to live in Atlanta. She attended Sprayberry High School. Parvati graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of Georgia. Parvati has two siblings, and she is the eldest child.

In 2004, Parvati started competing in boxing. With the help of some fellow boxers, she established a non-profit organization called "Knockout For Girls" that provided scholarships and boxing lessons to underprivileged young girls. Parvati has completed the Nautica Malibu Sprint Triathlon.

Parvati Shallow appeared in the thirteenth season of Survivor: Cook Islands in 2006 where she finished in the sixth place. She originally auditioned for The Amazing Race but did not make the final cut. Producers of the CBS television network approached her to compete in the Survivor series and she accepted the offer. She returned to the show for the sixteenth season, Survivor: Micronesia, and won the title of the Sole Survivor. In 2010, Parvati was back for the twentieth season, Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains. She lasted for a total of 114 days and came second on the show.

Shallow is considered as one of the top three players on the show.  She won the Ozcars award for the "Sexiest Women of All Time" from a popular Survivor fan site Survivor Oz.
