Mike Gundy was born on the 12th of August, 1967. He was born and raised in Midwest City, Oklahoma, the United States by his parents. Despite being a famous sports personality, there is not much information available about his family background except that he has a brother named Cale Gundy. Cale is also the assistant head coach of the OU and a former player.
However, it is known that he attended Midwest City High Schooll. Ever since he was very young, he had his mind set on being a football player. He loved being in the field and that paid off very early in his career. He played as a quarterback in his high school and became the Oklahoma Player of the Year in 1986. He further attended the Oklahoma State University and played college football for four years.

Mike Gundy: Professional Life
The 51-year-old, Mike Gundy started working in the field of football when he was relatively young. He first began in the field as a quarterback when he was still in high school. But, soon decided he would rather choose a separate path and started coaching. He first worked as a graduate assistant of Pat Jones at the Oklahoma State University.
Gundy later became the offensive coach of the Oklahoma State University until he finally became the 22nd head coach of the university after Les Miles resigned from the post.
Unfortunately, in 2007, he got involved in a huge media controversy when he tried to criticize an article that had bad reviews of one of his players. However, the incident did not seem to effect Gundy in the slightest as he later described the incidence as a blessing in disguise.
One of the remarkable seasons throughout the history of Mike's career as well as for the Cowboys was the 2008 season. They made their mark in the top 15 for most of the season which led him to sign a new seven-year contract worth $15.7 million. The continued to win the Big 12 Championship in 2011.
Unfortunately, Gundy was engulfed into another controversy in 2013 when Sports Illustrated published allegations against him for hiring players who were academically uneligible, enduring drug abuse, and many more. However, it was confirmed later that there was no misconduct found.
