Mary Ann Esposito is an American chef, TV host, as well as a cookbook writer who is widely known for hosting the TV series called Ciao Italia with Mary Ann Esposito. The series began airing in 1989 and it is the longest-running TV cooking program in America. In addition to that, as an author, Mary Ann has also published more than a dozen cookbooks.

Mary Ann Esposito was born in Buffalo, New York, United States of America. She came into this world on 3rd August of the year 1942 which has now made her 76 years old. Her mother was a dietician. Both of her grandmothers were professional chefs and they moved from Italy to the US in the 1980s.

Ann’s paternal grandmother was from Sicily and she owned a butcher shop in Fairport, New York whereas her maternal grandmother lived in Buffalo and owned a boarding house. Her latter grandmother, from Naples, continued their traditions of Italian household within the boarding house.

As a youth, Mary Ann never intended to pursue her career in cooking. She learned cooking from her family. Every day, her grandmother used to make bread with her helping to make twenty loaves of bread each day.

After completing her graduation from the college with a teaching degree, she became an elementary school teacher. In the year 1979, Esposito’s mother sent her a pasta maker. Despite lack of interest in cooking, she taught herself to make pasta dough. The next year, she visited Italy for the first time where she started to attend a cooking class.

After that, Ann started to learn the history of Italian cooking and she also traveled the country twice a year to take cooking lessons. She got enrolled at the University of New Hampshire and also took classes to learn the Italian language. By the year 1985, she joined the program of history master, writing the thesis about an Italian Renaissance cooking.

At the beginning of her career, she started to teach cooking through the division of Continuing Education of the University of New Hampshire. She then submitted her proposal for a cooking show in the mid-1980s to New Hampshire Public TV.
