Lolo was born in Des Moines, Iowa. She belongs to African-American, Native American, Norwegian and French descent. She went to eight different schools in eight years. Her single mother, Lori, often held down two jobs to support her family. When Jones was in the third standard, her family settled down in the basement of a Des Moines Salvation Army church.
After Jones and her family parted ways, she went to Theodore Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. While she attended college, she also trained and worked part-time at the Iowa Bakery Cafe, a local coffee shop.

After graduating in 2005, Jones started her training for her track career. Soon, she won the Torino Memorial event, and a year later, she won the Ostrava track event and the Heusden track event.
In 2008, Jones reached a great height of success. That year, she won the USA Outdoor Championship as well as the USA and World Indoor Championship. Unfortunately, during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, she got bitter disappointment in the 100-meter hurdle event when she stumbled on the penultimate hurdle and came 17th in the race.
After that, in 2011, Jones had to get a surgery to rectify a tethered spinal cord which caused her problems for a while. Jones started training for the 2014 Sochi Winter Games as a part of the U.S. bobsled team. Due to her hard work and efforts, in 2013, she managed to secure a place for herself in the U.S. women’s bobsled team. But, unfortunately, she came 3rd in the U.S. selection race. Jones along with her teammate came in at 11th position at the Winter Games.
