Kevin Kwan was born in Singapore. Until the age of eleven, he lived in Singapore. Later, with his family, he moved to Texas, United States. He has two other siblings named Kendall and Kerry. His family was Chinese. His mother was a pianist while his father was an engineer.

Previously, his great-grandfather served as a founding director of the Overseas-Chinese Banking Corporation, Singapore's oldest bank. His paternal grandfather worked as an ophthalmologist. Also, his maternal grandfather founder of the Hinghwa Methodist Church. Similarly, Kwan is also acquainted with famous American personality, Nancy Kwan.

Regarding his education, Kwan attended the Anglo-Chinese School located in Singapore. After that, he went to the University of Houston-Clear Lake to earn a Bachelors of Arts degree in Media Studies. Then, he went to Manhattan for studying BFA in Photography in Parsons School of Design.

Kevin Kwan: Professional Life, Career, books

Immediately after graduation, Kwan started working for Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine and Martha Stewart Living. Then, he also got a chance to serve in Tibor Kalman's design firm M&Co. After that, in 2000, Kwan started his own creative studio with clients from the Museum of Modern Art, Ted.com, and The New York Times.

Then, in 2013, he published his famous book, Crazy Rich Asians, where he mostly wrote about his childhood in Singapore. The book received a lot of appreciation and praise. It was one of the best sellers nationally as well as internationally.

Then, due to its massive success, it was also translated into 12 different languages. After that, he published China Rich Girlfriend in June 2015. The book was a sequel of his previous book. Same as before, he received positive reviews for this book as well. Finally, in May 2017, he released his last installment named Rich People Problems.

Talking about his achievements, in 2014, The Hollywood Reporter titled Kwan as one of the "Five Writers to Watch" on the list of Hollywood's Most Powerful Authors. Again, in 2018, Kwan reached to the Time magazine's list of 100 most influential people.
