Jorge Ramos is a Mexican-American by his nationality. He is a journalist, author, as well as an activist who is best-known as the Spanish-language news anchor in the USA.

Ramos has been referred to as the Walter Cronkite of Latin America. He is presently based in Miami, Florida and he anchors the Univision News TV program known as Noticiero Univision, Al Punto, and America with Jorge Ramos.

Jorge Ramos is originally from Mexico City, Mexico. He took his first breath in this world on 16th March of the year 1958 which has now made him reach at the age of 60. Ramos was raised up as a Roman Catholic in Bosques de Echegaray neighborhood of Naucalpan which is a suburb of Mexico City.

His father was an architect. For his primary education, Jorge went to study at the Catholic schools where he states that he was abused by his priests. After that, he got enrolled at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City from where he got majored in Communications.

Prior to that, Ramos has also attended the University of Miami located in Miami, Florida. From there, he earned himself a Master’s Degree in International Studies. It was in the year 2008 when Jorge became a US citizen after many years of feeling personally conflicted over the matter.

Besides that, Ramos has married twice as well as divorced too. He was previously married to his first-wife Gina Montaner who is the daughter of Carlos Alberto Montaner, exiled Cuban author. There is no information found about when and where did they exchanged their vows.

But due to some personal issues, the pair divorced in 1990. He also has one daughter named Paola together with his first wife. After that, Jorge married for the second time with Lisa Bolivar. Their wedding ceremony was held in 1992 in a Roman Catholic ceremony at Cathedral of San Juan Bautista.

Jorge Ramos: Career

At the beginning of his career, Ramos used to work for the flagship of Grupo Televisa, XEW-TV for the local version of 60 minutes. When he was 24 years old, Jorge left the job after the story he produced that was critical of the government of Mexico was censored.

Later in the year 1983, he left Mexico on a student visa for moving to Los Angeles, California. There, he planned to get enrolled in UCLA Extension’s Journalism classes. The following year, Ramos was hired by KMEX-TV.

There, he felt that he could express himself freely. After a couple of years, Jorge became a host for the morning program of KMEX known as Mundo Latino. He then joined the SIN’s national operation in 1987 that was rebranded as “Univision” network after a year.

Since the year 1987, Jorge has been the anchorman for “Noticiero Univision” which is a nightly Spanish language newscast along with colleague Maria Elena Salinas. Currently, he also hosts Al Punto and America with Jorge Ramos.

During his career till now, Ramos has also covered five wars and the events ranging from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the War in Afghanistan.

Prior to that, Jorge has won 8 Emmy Awards as well as the Maria Moors Cabot Prize for his excellence in journalism. Besides that, he was one of the people in 2015 who got selected for the five different covers of the issue of Time listing “The World’s 100 Most Influential People”.
