Jeff Adachi was originally from Sacramento, California, USA. He came into this world on 29th August of the year 1959. Adachi’s father was an auto mechanic whereas his mother was a laboratory assistant.

His parents, as well as grandparents, spent the part of World War II in Rohwer War Relocation Center located in Arkansas. For his high school education, Jeff went to study at the C.K. McClatchy High School where he was a notable poor student with numbers of absences because of spending many hours on the part-time jobs.

After that, he attended the Sacramento City College before he got transferred to the University of California, Berkeley from where he completed his Bachelor Degree in 1981.

Later, Adachi got enrolled at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and from there, he received himself a Juris Doctor in the year 1985.

Jeff Adachi: Career

At the beginning of his career, Jeff started as a deputy public defender with San Francisco Public Defender’s Office. It was the post in which he worked for 15 years. Adachi then ultimately rose to a rank of Chief Attorney of the Office and also served in that capacity for 3 years.

During his career, he had tried over 100 jury trials as well as handled 3000 criminal matters. Jeff was featured in 2002 PBS Documentary “Presumed Guilty” which is a film about San Francisco Public Defender’s Office.

He is the only elected Public Defender in the State of California and ran an office of over 100 attorneys and 60 staff members. Jeff had also launched an Immigration Unit in 2017 for representing undocumented immigrants locked in detention facilities as well as facing deportation.

Prior to that, Adachi had also written, produced, and directed “The Slanted Screen” which is a documentary film about the stereotypical depictions of the Asian males in an American cinema. The movie won the top awards at New York International Independent Film and Video Festival and also at Berkeley Film Festival.
