A native of Madinah, Saudi Arabia, Jamal Khashoggi was born on 13th October of the year 1958. Growing up, he received his elementary and secondary level education in Saudi Arabia. After that, he went on to attend Indiana State University from where he got graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

Jamal Khashoggi: Disappearance

On 2nd October, Tuesday, Jamal entered the consulate of Saudi to obtain a document certifying he had already divorced his ex-wife so that he could marry his fiancé Hatice. But he never came out. The following day, the Saudi government said that he had already left the consulate whereas the Turkish government said he was still inside.

His fiancé, Hatice who went with him and waited outside said that she waited for Jamal until after the midnight and didn’t see him leave the consulate. She then returned when the consulate reopened on the next day.

A Turkish official has told the BBC that the initial investigations indicated Jamal was murdered there. The Turkish police also said that Jamal has been brutally tortured, murdered and then hacked to pieces by the 15-member Saudi death squad that was sent to Istanbul from Saudi Arabia.

Jamal Khashoggi: Professional life and career

At the beginning of his career, Jamal started working for Tihama Bookstores as a regional manager. He worked there from 1983 to 1984. After that, he served for the Saudi Gazette as a correspondent as well as for Okaz as an assistant manager.

Jamal continued his career as the reporter for various daily and weekly Arab newspapers which included A Muslimoon, Al Majalla, and Al Sharq Al Awsat. Later in 1991, he became a managing editor and the acting editor-in-chief of Al Madina. His term lasted there until 1999.

Jamal was also appointed as a deputy editor-in-chief of the Arab News. He served in that post from 1999-2003. Prior to that, Khashoggi is also the political commentator for the Saudi as well as international channels such as BBC, MBC, Dubai TV, and Al Jazeera.
