Born March 26, 1943, Robert Upshur Woodward is a journalist who is currently working as a reporter for  The Washington Post. He is one of America's most respected journalist. He is mostly known for the Watergate scandal which brought down the President, Richard Nixon. Woodward was born in Geneva, Illinois to his mother, Jane (née Upshur) and his father, Alfred Eno Woodward II. His father is currently working as a chief judge of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court. Regarding his education, Woodward went to Yale College. He received Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship and earned a degree in history and English literature.

While studying at Yale, Woodward became a part of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He also joined the prestigious secret society Book and Snake. Then, in 1965, he graduated with his B.A. degree. Even after getting accepted to Harvard Law school, Woodward chose not to study law. Instead, he applied for an internship in The Washington Post. He worked there as an intern for two weeks. The editors of The Washington Post were highly impressed with him and referred him to a weekly paper in suburban Maryland named the Montgomery County Sentinel. In less than a year, Woodward sharpened his skills and got the opportunity to work for The Washington Post once again.

Woodward kept working at The Washington Post. Due to his dedication and hard work, the post appointed him as an assistant managing editor in 1979. Later, however, people started knowing him as a writer more than a reporter. His writings on John Belushi and former U.S. vice president Dan Quayle got both praise and criticism.

In 2002, he released Bush at War, the first of a kind book in a series of books where he offered an insider’s look at the administration. The book was written during the administration of President George W. Bush.  Then, he released the Plan of Attack in 2004 which covered the period leading up to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

After that, he published his book named the State of Denial in 2006. In the book, he provides a scathing dissection of the missteps that undermined the administration’s war efforts. The War Within, released in 2008, delivered a harsh assessment of the president.

Next, Woodward concentrated on the administration of President Barack Obama. In his book named Obama’s Wars (released in 2010), he focused in the divisions within the White House with his main concern being the Afghanistan War policy.
