Beto O'Rourke is an American politician and businessman. O'Rourke serves as the U.S. Representative for the 16th congressional district of Texas since 2013. In 2018, he was one of the nominees from the Democratic Party for the Texas Senate race. He lost to Republican incumbent Ted Cruz.

Beto O'Rourke is married to Amy Hoover Sanders. The couple has three children together. O'Rourke is the co-founder of the software company Stanton Street Technology. He is a member of the congressional member organization called New Democrat Coalition.

Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke was born on September 26, 1972, in El Paso, Texas, United States. His parents are Melissa Martha Williams and Pat Francis O'Rourke. Beto went to River Elementary School and Mesita Elementary School. He attended El Paso High School before enrolling in Woodberry Forest School. Beto graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in literature.

Beto O'Rourke: Professional Life

Beto O'Rourke was elected to the House of Representatives in 2012 after he defeated incumbent Democratic U.S. Representative Silvestre Reyes in the Democratic primary. O'Rourke was on the El Paso City Council from June 2005 to June 2011 before his election to Congress.

In 1991, O'Rourke formed a band with his four friends named Foss. The band members were Beto O'Rourke, Mike Stevens, Arlo Klahr, and Cedric Bixler-Zavala. He played drums in a band called Swedes, and they released an album called Summer in 1995.  Beto also worked as a proofreader at H. W. Wilson Company in the Bronx.

In 1999, Beto O'Rourke co-founded Stanton Street Technology. It is an Internet service and software company that develops websites and software. O'Rourke has been involved with civic organizations and non-profit groups like El Paso's Rotary Club, United Way, and Center Against Sexual and Family Violence.
