After completing her law school, Amy started working as a corporate lawyer. Besides working as a prosecutor, she was the partner at Minnesota Law Firms “Dorsey & Whitney” and “Gray Plant Mooty”.

Amy was first a candidate for the public office in 1994 when she ran for Hennepin County Attorney. Later, she was elected as Hennepin County attorney in the year 1998 and was again reelected in 2002.

Klobuchar was also named as Attorney of the Year in 2001 by Minnesota Lawyer. Additionally, she was also the President of the Minnesota County Attorneys Association. She held the position from November 2002 to November 2003.
