It was on 28^th June of the year 2007 when Alfred was selected by Atlanta Hawks with a 3^rd-overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. That same year on 9^th July, he signed the rookie scale contract with the Hawks.

In 2008-2009, Horford began all 67 games he played in averaging 9.3 rebounds, 11.5 points, 1.4 blocks, 2.4 assists, and 0.8 steals in 33.5 minutes. He also had an outstanding season in 2009-2010 becoming the 1^st Hawks draft pick who earned an All-Star berth since Kevin Willis in 1992.
