Al Michaels hails from Brooklyn, New York City and marked his birthday on 12th of November in the year 1944. He parents were Jay Leonard Michaels and Lila Roginsky. Michaels grew up as an elder brother to his siblings, David and Susan. Like himself, his younger brother is also from the television industry. David is the producer of programs such as  Triple Crown, NBC's coverage of the Olympic Games, and  Beyond the Glory series.

He was interested in television right from his younger days. So, he studied radio and television along with journalism at the  Arizona State University.

He lives with his beautiful wife Linda Michaels and their two children, Jennifer and Steven. They reside in Los Angeles. Michael's son is the CEO and President of the film company named Asylum Entertainment in Los Angeles.

Al Michaels

Al started off as a sports writer for Arizona State University's student newspaper called The State Press. However, his first sportscasting job knocked on his doors in 1964 when he did public relations for the Los Angeles Lakers. Unfortunately, his first job did not go as well as he might have anticipated as Chick Hearn did not approve his commentating skills.

One of his major career highlights were his days of broadcasting the 1980 Winter Olympics ice hockey medal round match that occurred between the United States and the Soviet Union. He even broadcasted third game of the 1989 World Series.

Michaels has also broadcasted baseball matches and some of his most famous were the 1972 National League Championship Series,  1985 World Series,  along with 1986 American League Championship Series. For his excellent job, he received a Sportscaster of the Year award from the American Sportscasters Association.

Al also tried his hands on writing when he released an autobiography named You Can't Make This Up: Memories and the Perfect Marriage of Sports and Television in 2014. The autobiography marked its place in the New York Times Best Seller list from nonfiction genre.
